Teams who want to sign DeMarcus Cousins in free agency should be prepared to show the big man the money. The New Orleans Pelicans center is not keeping it a secret either that he wants to get top dollar once he hits the free agent market. The 27-year-old big man even liked an Instagram comment that suggested that Cousins is headed to the team that would offer him the biggest contract.

While Cousins still is widely viewed as among the best centers in the NBA, his chances of securing the lucrative deal in the summer could be affected once front offices bring up his devastating Achilles injury that forced him to go under the knife in January. Cousins suffered the injury in a home game against the Houston Rockets earlier this year before getting sidelined for the rest of the season, including the playoffs.

In a recent interview with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Cousins expressed his desire to stay in New Orleans but also insinuated that he’s open to signing somewhere else.

Before going down with the said injury, Cousins was averaging 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game as part of a scary Pelicans frontcourt that also boasts of Anthony Davis.

Cousins was traded to New Orleans by the Sacramento Kings in February of last year along with Omri Casspi in exchange for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, and a pair of future draft picks. He earned $18.06 million during the 2017-18 campaign, the last of the four-year extension deal he signed with Sacramento back in 2017.
