The NBA received devastating news when the game between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Houston Rockets resulted in DeMarcus Cousins suffering an Achilles injury Friday night. Cousins was carried off to the locker room by teammates after he landed awkwardly on the floor in the dying seconds of regulation.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski sent out a Tweet shortly after the game, which reveals the test results on Cousins' injury along with the estimated duration of his recovery period.

The injury occurred during the last few seconds of the fourth quarter as Cousins was attempting to rebound his own missed free-throw with about 14 seconds left in the game. The Rockets’ Trevor Ariza had the rebound for a millisecond before a streaking Cousins went after it and poked the ball away from him.

As he stepped onto the floor during that sequence, Cousins hopped a few times, favoring his left leg, before eventually falling down as he tried to put pressure on it.

Yahoo Sports' NBA Insider Shams Charania follows it up with an update on the immediate plan for Cousins.

With Cousins out for the rest of the season, the Pelicans are losing one of their cornerstones for a deep playoff run. It would have been his first playoff experience in nine years. Cousins was also having a career year prior to the injury with averages of 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game entering the matchup with the Rockets.

Everyone is simply hoping that Boogie gets back on his feet as soon as possible.
