Demarcus Cousins is known for his brash attitude and is often associated with being a headache, but there is little that he regrets despite what he may feel is an unfair reputation.

However, there is one thing the New Orleans Pelicans All-Star center opens up about in an interview with ESPN's Marc Spears to reveal that he does regret, and that would be to leave the Sacramento Kings much sooner when he had the opportunity.

“My biggest regret is … why didn't I leave when I had the chance?

I had the chance, but I fought it. I wanted to give it a chance. My representatives, they told me I shouldn't stay. You know, being … guess you can say stubborn and ‘loyal,' I wanted to make things work.

I should have left when I had the chance, and avoided it all, because they told me what would happen,” Cousins responded.”

When it came to maturity and leadership, DeMarcus Cousins was always questioned because his talent didn't match his personal growth, but he led the team to take a gamble on him despite his troubles until the day came when the Kings decided to move on.

At one point ex-Kings coach George Karl tried to have the star center traded which led to plenty of awkward moments including one tweet from Cousins that referred to the former coach as a snake.

The team had later fired Karl and stuck with DeMarcus Cousins to the point where he was told by management that he would not be traded and exchanged views on personnel moves until the time of the separation.

Believing he was on the same page as management, Cousins found himself traded to the Pelicans as he answered questions from reporters during the All-Star game's postgame interview session in New Orleans

Just prior to being able to sign a large extension with the team, the Kings had decided he was not part of their future, and Cousins remained in New Orleans where he currently plays alongside Anthony Davis.

“All last year, I felt like that's all it was about. I got traded, and ‘he hates Sacramento,' and that kind of fed into it. At the end of the day, it's a business. I kind of blame myself for even putting myself at that point. You knew coming in this was a business. How are you gonna be loyal to someone that ain't loyal to any player that's ever played this game? I was a fool.”

The Kings face off against the Pelicans for the first time after the trade Thursday night on TNT at 10:30 pm ET
