New Orleans Pelicans forward DeMarcus Cousins is leading the league in technical fouls, and he doesn't' understand why.

Cousins has seven technicals to his name so far this season, which ties him with Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors for the most in the league. But to hear Cousins tell it, he has not been nearly as belligerent with referees this season compared to years past.

But for some reason, referees are still calling him for infractions — including when he seems to say something benign — per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated

“I got a tech for saying, ‘Good job, referee,’ ” Cousins said. “I said, ‘Good job. Good call.’ And I got a tech? I swear to God on my kids. I have yet to have a moment where I just erupt or go off [this season]. I haven’t had one of those, but for some reason I’m still leading the league in techs.”

Cousins seems upset that his reputation alone is giving the referees license to call him for technical fouls, even if he's not saying anything particular offensive or subordinate.

It's an unfair practice, but historically, it has happened to many NBA players, usually those that have a history of barking with referees after almost every call.

Maybe Cousins has turned over a new leaf. But until the referees believe it, this will keep happening.
