Outside of his basketball skills, DeMarcus Cousins has also been infamously known for having a short temper on the court. He has not been shy to speak his mind and blast referees, often resulting in being slapped with technical fouls, or even suspensions. During their season opener on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies though, he once again ran his mouth and had an exchange of expletives, this time with a fan in attendance.

Security personnel reportedly had to intervene to prevent the situation to escalate further, according to Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal. The 27-year-old Kentucky product fired back at the heckler, which started their fiery exchange filled with F-bombs.

The 6-foot-11 big man’s frustrations were heightened further as the New Orleans Pelicans were down by a huge margin late in the game, which could have caused him to answer back to the fan. It resulted in him receiving his first technical foul of the season, and his team eventually lost on the night, 103-91, despite having big games from the All-Star frontcourt of Cousins and Anthony Davis.

Having meltdowns during games has been an issue for Cousins since his days with the Sacramento Kings. His brilliant performances have usually been overshadowed by it, and it has made him earn the stigma of being a difficult player to coach. However, if he can improve on controlling his temper, it could give the Pelicans more positive energy, which could help them make a lot of noise in the tough Western Conference, and possibly even making it to the playoffs this year.
