Zion Williamson was the talk of the town during this year's All-Star Weekend, despite him not playing. The reason: rumors of him being ‘detached' from the New Orleans Pelicans swirled around the league. It all started when newly acquired star CJ McCollum revealed that the former first-overall pick hasn't reached out to him.

Since then, rumors about Zion's feelings about the Pelicans started to intensify. It all came to a head when former teammate JJ Redick blasted Zion Williamson on live TV, saying that the star was ‘detached' during his time there.

However, another former member of the Pelicans came out with his own explanation of the Zion situation. Stan Van Gundy, who was the team's coach last year, shared his insight on Williamson's situation in “The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz” podcast.

“Zion at times can certainly be detached. When he’s playing I didn’t think he was detached at all last year. But when he’s not playing – off-season, breaks, injured, whatever – I think he just wants to be by himself. I think he doesn’t like not playing, he wants to be by himself and get ready, that’s a big part of it. And at that point all he wants to do is get back and play to re-attach.”

Van Gundy would also go on to express his confusion with Redick's comments, saying that he thought the two got along well in the Pelicans.

“I was surprised actually that JJ came out and said that. I know for a fact that JJ really likes Zion.”

There's two sides to every story, and it's clear that we've only heard the side against Williamson. It will be interesting to see what the Pelicans star's explanation is for his actions.
