The New Orleans Pelicans announced that Frank Jackson was placed under concussion protocol of the league. The sophomore guard sustained a concussion during their 130-120 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.

Jackson took a hit to the head during the third quarter of their match against the Hawks. The 20-year-old point guard will likely miss their game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday.

The Pelicans did not give a return timetable, saying that there is no definite timeframe to complete the return process. The team pointed out that concussion can vary in each case, but the return-to-participation process cannot begin within 24 hours from the time of the injury.

Jackson was having another big night for the Pelicans on Tuesday before exiting out of the game. In 25 minutes of action, the former Duke University standout scored 20 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including two three-pointers.

Jackson, who was the 31st overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, is on the best month of his young NBA career. Against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, he scored 19 points to go along with six assists and three rebounds. Last week, the 6-foot-3 guard tallied 14 and 19 points against the Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks, respectively.

Jackson is averaging just 8.1 points on top of 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists this season. But in 13 games this March, he is posting 15.5 points to go along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

If he gets the chance to return this season, Jackson is expected to continue getting more playing time, as Jrue Holiday was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Holiday, who has not played since March 6, underwent surgery to repair his core muscle injury.
