Isaiah Thomas plans to sign a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. Thomas will be eligible to play Sunday against the Houston Rockets.

Thomas had been searching for his next NBA opportunity for a while since he last played for the Washington Wizards in the 2019-20 season. The veteran point guard was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers right before the trade deadline and then waived.

The 32-year-old has bounced around the NBA since he was a two-time All-Star with the Boston Celtics and one of the best fourth-quarter players in the league. Since his glory days with the Celtics, Thomas has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets and Wizards. He averaged 12.2 points and 3.7 assists while shooting 40.8% overall and 41.3% from 3 in 23.1 minutes per game over 40 appearances in the nation's capital last season.

Isaiah Thomas did play for Team USA at FIBA qualifying games a couple of months ago. Now, he's getting another shot in the NBA and will try to stick around. Injuries have zapped him of his prior greatness, but hopefully he'll be able to at least find a home on a roster.

The Pelicans are currently dealing with a number of injuries. Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are all set to miss Friday's game against the Atlanta Hawks, and it's unclear just how long these guys will be out. New Orleans has to sign a player by Saturday to reach the 14-man roster requirement, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.
