New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard JJ Redick didn’t play particularly well in their Christmas Day game against the Miami Heat, which the Pelicans lost, 111-98.

The veteran guard, in his 15th season, finished with eight points and two rebounds but shot just 1-of-7 from the field. His lone made basket, however, was a 3-pointer, which was enough to give him the NBA record for most 3-pointers made on Christmas Day with 24.

The 36-year-old Redick entered the day tied with Houston Rockets guard James Harden for the all-time record with 23 triples on Christmas Day but broke the tie after sinking a triple against the Heat.

Redick has been known as an accurate 3-point shooter since his days playing for the Duke Blue Devils, something that has continued in the NBA. Over the course of his career, which includes stints with the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Pelicans, he has made an average of 2.3 3-pointers a game and shot 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

But Redick has competition for the record who could tie or surpass him in Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who both have 22 made 3-pointers on Christmas Day. Durant and the Nets are set to play the Boston Celtics later on Christmas Day, while James and the Lakers face off against the Dallas Mavericks.

But even if James or Durant surpasses him, Redick’s record is a testament to how long he’s been playing in the league and how often he has played on Christmas Day.
