The New Orleans Pelicans got blown out by the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, losing by a final score of 130-84. Pelicans guard JJ Redick was pretty honest with reporters after the game, admitting that the Pelicans didn't even compete versus the Mavs.

The Pelicans are 6-17 on the season. They scored just 14 points in the third quarter on Saturday while giving up 40 to the Mavs.

Redick, who has made the playoffs every single season of his NBA career, is in jeopardy of seeing that streak end this season. The Pelicans were the trendy pick to make the playoffs this season after an offseason of heavy turnover, but Zion Williamson's knee injury put a stop to all the hype in The Big Easy.

Williamson underwent surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in October. He won’t return before the initial six-to-eight week projection of his knee rehab. As a result, the Pelicans have struggled to win games in the rugged Western Conference and don't appear to be headed to the playoffs.

There are some who believe Williamson should sit out the entire season since New Orleans doesn't appear to be talented enough to be competitive. Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry and VP David Griffin, though, have given no indication that Williamson will sit out the whole year. Both men have said that Williamson hasn’t suffered any setbacks in his rehab.
