The New Orleans Pelicans have a date with the new punching-bag Golden State Warriors, but they will have to compete with Stephen Curry and company sans one-time All-Star guard Jrue Holiday.

Per Andrew Lopez of ESPN, Holiday was ruled out on Monday night against the Warriors. He is listed as day-to-day due to a left knee sprain.

Holiday also missed the team's showdown against the Houston Rockets due to the issue.

The Pelicans host Golden State at home and are attempting to notch their first win of the early 2019-20 NBA season.

Meanwhile, the 0-2 Warriors look glum, too, with reality setting in for head coach Steve Kerr and the underwhelming roster. After Curry and All-Stars Draymond Green and D'Angelo Russell, Kerr's team is mostly barren of talent — unlike the Bay Area franchise's past years and five consecutive trips to the Finals.

Many have speculated the end of the Warriors' grasp on the NBA and a dynasty crumbling just two games and two losses in. The Pelicans could capitalize on Golden State's deflating start to the season, but Holiday's continued absence is a thorn in New Orleans' side.

Not to mention that rookie phenom Zion Williamson will be missing up to eight weeks due to a meniscus tear in his right knee.

So far, the Pelicans have had to lean into young forward and former Los Angeles Laker Brandon Ingram and his teammates, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart. The three lead New Orleans in scoring through three games.
