Jrue Holiday played a big role in convincing JJ Redick to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans, pitching to the veteran sharpshooter the changes the franchise has made and will make under executive vice president David Griffin.

Redick recently admitted that Holiday was one of the reasons why he chose the Pelicans, citing that Jrue is one of his favorite players in the league. The former Philadelphia 76ers swingman added that they talked on phone during free agency, in which Holiday convinced him to go to New Orleans.

In an interview with Scott Kushner of NOLA.com, Holiday said that he told Redick he wants to play with him. The 29-year-old point guard then went on to discuss that his talk with Redick was a “cool moment” for him.

“That was such a cool moment for me. I’ve been such a fan of him and have been for a while. I told him we would love to have him and what we could do together. And I told him about all of the new stuff that was going on with our organization and with Griff. It was really cool.”

Redick spent last season with the Sixers where he averaged 18.1 points, 2.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds. He also shot an impressive 39 percent from beyond the arc.

JJ Redick will definitely play a major role in the Pelicans' quest to make the playoffs next season, and fans can partly thank Holiday for convincing him to join the team.
