Lonzo Ball has made his first public comments since being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the New Orleans Pelicans in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade.

Ball is headed to the Pelicans with small forward Brandon Ingram and shooting guard Josh Hart. New Orleans now has a really nice young core, headlined by No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson. Point guard Jrue Holiday rounds out the roster as an elite two-way player.

This past season with the Lakers, Ball averaged 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. He shot 40.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from beyond the arc and 41.7 percent from the free-throw line. It's going to be really fun to watch Ball and Williamson run together in the open court with the Pelicans. We could see Lob City 2.0 in New Orleans in 2019-20.

Ball showed in his two seasons with the Lakers he's a strong defender and passer. Shooting and scoring off the dribble are two areas the former No. 2 overall pick has to improve in.

Playing in head coach Alvin Gentry's uptempo system, Lonzo figures to flourish with the Pelicans. The expectations will also be lower than what they were in Los Angeles since no one is expecting the Pelicans to compete for a championship.
