New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball made headlines last year when he and his father, LaVar Ball, had a very public falling-out. Lonzo, his father and family associate Alan Foster had a squabble in 2019 over missing funds.

It appears that Lonzo and LaVar have been able to mend fences. The Pelicans guard himself opened up about their current relationship:

“We had a couple rumblings here and there, but everything got squared away,” Lonzo Ball said, via ESPN's Malika Andrews. “When your son gets older, they're going to butt heads with their dad, and that's what I did for about a year and a half. But everything is cool now.”

LaVar echoed his son's sentiments:

“He's always been his own man,” LaVar stated. “As a father, all I can do is guide him. I'm not going to take a lesser role. I am going to be his father, and that's it.”

Lonzo Ball also recently became a father to his first daughter, Zoey, which is something that provided him with some new perspective with regards to his own relationship with his dad:

“My dad put me in a position where I am comfortable making my own decisions now,” Ball said. “I think coming into the league, he was very controlling of everything that was going on. But that was an 18-, 19-year-old kid. But now I am 22 years old with my own family. Seeing how he watched over me and stuff — it was time for him to finally let go of everything and watch me be my own man.”

Everything now seems peachy in the Ball family, with Lonzo and LaVar moving past their prior differences. It's always great to hear about reconciliation narratives, and this one is no different.

Lonzo Ball is set to face a very interesting offseason that will have a huge impact on his future in the NBA. He's eligible for an extension and just signed with Klutch Sports after a brief stint with Roc Nation.
