The news keeps rolling in regarding the trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans. Although the Lakers got the superstar, Anthony Davis, it's hard not to be impressed with the haul the Pelicans got back.

New Orleans received Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart as the established players. The Pelicans also received three first-round picks. New Orleans got the 2019 pick (fourth), as well as a top-eight protected 2021 pick (which becomes unprotected in 2022). Finally, they received an unprotected first in the 2024 draft.

That's not all. The Pels also got the rights to swap picks in 2023 and 2025, according to Tim Bontemps on Twitter.

Wow. That's a lot.

It's really hard to argue with the thinking of the New Orleans front office on this one. The Pelicans basically ensured solid draft picks for the next six years, with very little protection on the 2021 pick and none on the 2024 one. The swapping of 2023 and 2025 is icing on the cake.

Look at it this way, LeBron James is probably gone by 2023, definitely 2025. There's a strong chance the Lakers won't be a dominant force by then.

New Orleans, on the other hand, will be building around the young core it now has. The Pelicans will also be drafting Zion Williamson and have the fourth pick. Then there are the extra picks they'll have in future years due to the trade.

With all that, they could be a much better team than Los Angeles by 2023, and especially 2025. Having the ability to swap picks in those drafts could give New Orleans a laughable amount of return in this trade.

The Los Angeles Lakers received one of the best players in the NBA in Anthony Davis, so you can't call them losers. However, the New Orleans Pelicans might've won this trade.
