The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday by a final score of 126-116. And the Pels managed to achieve a franchise record in the process. The Pelicans hit an impressive 21 three-pointers, which broke the former franchise record of 19:

The Pelicans had notched 19 triples five times previously – all of which occurred since December of 2018. In Monday’s game, New Orleans got a whopping 7 three-pointers from longtime point guard Jrue Holiday. Holiday finished with 36 efficient points on only 18 shot attempts.

The Pelicans in general shot stupendously from the outside. They shot a lofty 50 percent from deep on 48 attempts – a whopping number that showcases the Pelicans’ offensive exploits.

Beyond Holiday, stretch center Nicolo Melli hit three triples, and Frank Jackson, Brandon Ingram, JJ Redick, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart all hit two apiece. E’Twaun Moore was the only Pelicans player to notch just one three.

While this victory only puts the Pels at a 17-27 record for the season, they were able to distance themselves ever so slightly from the true cellar dwellers in the West. The Kings sit at 15-27 as do the Wolves, and the terrible Warriors (still feels weird to say that), currently bring up the rear with a 10-34 record.

Still, with the advent of Zion Williamson returning on Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, the Pels are likely glad that the team’s spacing might finally be right where it needs to be for Williamson to flourish.
