The New Orleans Pelicans are bolstering their backcourt with the addition of Jarrett Jack. The savvy veteran will back up the likes of Jrue Holiday, Elfrid Payton, and E'Twaun Moore. Jack is coming off a relatively successful season in New York.

The one-year deal was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and it's a non-guaranteed contract.

Jack, 34, didn't have his most successful season from a statistical standpoint, but he played the part of the experienced veteran. A member of the starting lineup until February, Jack professionally stepped aside and allowed the Knicks to play their younger guards in what was a lost season.

Stepping aside is one thing, but Jack did much more than that. He was a vocal leader from the bench and mentored young guards like Frank Ntilikina, Trey Burke, and Emmanuel Mudiay. Even in games where he didn't play for a second, Jack made his presence known — and heard. He could routinely be heard from the bench calling out assignments and helping direct the defense.

At this point in his career, Jack isn't averaging double figures. But he can provide some depth in the backcourt while playing the role of the exemplary teammate.

Additionally, Jack has experience in New Orleans. He's spent parts of three seasons with the Pelicans and previously the New Orleans Hornets. Jack turns 35-years of age before November and it's unclear how much he has left in the tank. But even if he isn't a fixture in Alvin Gentry's rotation, he can bring experience and a veteran presence in the locker room. That shouldn't be overlooked.
