The New Orleans Pelicans won the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night, which puts them in pole position to land the best prospect to come out of college since, well, player that’s currently on the team’s roster – Anthony Davis.

Of course, Davis might not be on the team for very much longer as his trade request is still intact – even with the #1 overall pick heading to the Pels.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry already expressed his elation at landing the top pick in a rather spicy refrain soon after the pick was announced, and the Pelicans were in something of a celebratory mood after the lottery.

One even might refer to their mood as “gloating,” especially when you consider this response to a Tweet from Stephen A. Smith of ESPN:

Stephen A. is known for his love of the New York Knicks, yet the Knicks fell to the third spot in the lottery after suffering through one of its worst seasons in franchise history – finishing the season with a putrid 17-65 record.

This is a rather spicy response for numerous reasons. First off, the Pelicans social media team opted to misspell Stephen A.’s first name as “Steven.”

Then, they threw his own mocking of the team’s arena name back in his face by inviting him to watch Zion play at the Smoothie King Center.
