The New Orleans Pelicans are waiving 23-year-old power forward Christian Wood, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Wood appeared in only eight games for the Pelicans during the 2018-19 NBA season after New Orleans picked up the 6-foot-11 big man off waivers. Prior to the Pelicans, Wood spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, playing in 13 games overall and often competing in the G League for the affiliate Wisconsin Herd.

Wood entered the 2015 NBA Draft following two seasons at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After signing as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia 76ers and spending time with the G League Delaware Blue Coats (then known as the 87ers), Wood was waived and later played for the Charlotte Hornets.

Since his professional introduction in basketball, Wood has been a fringe NBA player, floating between the Sixers, Hornets, Bucks, and Pelicans and finding most of his time in the developmental league.

Wood initially signed a deal with Chinese basketball team Fujian Sturgeons before being waived and playing for Delaware again.

The Pelicans have added frontcourt depth this offseason following the Anthony Davis trade. They received forward Brandon Ingram, 21, from the Lakers, drafted 19-year-old Zion Williamson first overall from Duke University, traded for the draft rights to Jaxson Hayes, a center out of Texas, selected at 10, and traded for Utah Jazz big man Derrick Favors.

Wood averaged 16.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 23.6 minutes per game in eight appearances with the Pels, shooting 53.3% from the field, 28.6% from deep, and 75.6% from the free throw line.
