The New Orleans Pelicans want the NBA to strictly enforce the tampering rules in regards to Anthony Davis, according to a statement released via ESPN.

Anthony Davis has requested a trade from the Pelicans. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 7.

According to league policy, the NBA’s anti-tampering rule prohibits teams from interfering with other teams’ contractual relationships with NBA players. If you recall, Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson was fined $500,000 for tampering in communications centered around Paul George.

In December, Lakers star small forward LeBron James said it would be incredible to play with Davis in Los Angeles. The NBA didn't punish James for those comments, although Pelicans general manager Dell Demps thought the league should have at least investigated it.

Every team in the NBA is probably going to contact the Pelicans about trading for Davis. Where Davis plays next could possibly change the landscape of the league. New Orleans is going to make the right move for them, even if it means waiting until the summer to deal AD.

Davis and LeBron have the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. One could assume that the Pelicans are worried that Paul will try and get AD to LA.
