After getting the No.1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and the right to draft Duke phenom Zion Williamson, the New Orleans Pelicans are hoping that it would be enough to convince disgruntled star Anthony Davis to stay. However, several people still think that AD should not change his mind regarding a trade.

One of those individuals is NBA analyst Nick Wright, who believes that it is time for AD to make a serious run at a championship rather than wait a few more years for a draft prospect to become who the league thinks he will be.

“If you're Anthony Davis, you are right now in the heart of the prime of your career. You can go play on an instant contender, or you can help build a contender with Zion. I would prefer the former rather than the latter,” Wright argued.

Last January, Davis requested a trade from the Pelicans and although nothing has materialized up to this point, it is still believed that both sides will part ways as early as this summer. Several teams are expected to pursue a deal for AD, including the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.

AD is in his seventh season in the league, but he is yet to take part in a serious run in the playoffs. At this point, leaving the Pelicans might be his best option, and it seems that no one from within the franchise is capable of changing his mind.

Davis wore a “That's all folks” shirt during the Pelicans' final regular season game, and day by day, it is becoming more and more obvious that his show in New Orleans is officially over.
