In Monday's win over the Detroit Pistons, the New Orleans Pelicans scored more overtime points than in the fourth quarter. This is the first time this happened this season.

The Pelicans scored 13 points in the fourth then 15 points in overtime. More importantly, they snagged the victory, 117-110.

The Pelicans controlled most of the game up until the fourth quarter where the Pistons unleashed a run. Derrick Rose had a chance to win the game but his drive to the hoop was well-contested by the Pelicans defense. In overtime, the Pelicans regained control thanks to a bunch of defensive stops.

Jahlil Okafor led all scorers with 25 points to go along with 14 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Nicolo Melli chipped in 20 points, Lonzo Ball had 17 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists, while E'Twaun Moore added 16 points and seven rebounds.

The win marks a successful bounce back from their embarrassing 140-105 loss to the Boston Celtics. It also marks their seventh win in the last 10 games. While they're nowhere near playoff contention, this feat over the last few games has nevertheless raised eyebrows among fans and critics.

After all, the Pelicans squad is a young bunch with plenty to learn. Its fans do not expect the team to make waves right away. The process will be long and difficult. The wins are a great sign that the team is heading in the right direction.

The Alvin Genty-coached squad will go on a short two-game home stand against the Utah Jazz and the LA Clippers — both legitimate playoff contenders. Going 2-0 will be a difficult task. But they have all the momentum and talent to do so.
