The New Orleans Pelicans had a successful season, making it to the playoffs for the first time in four years. They managed this success without Zion Williamson, who missed the entire season with a long-term foot injury.

Williamson held camp registration for his NBA-level youth basketball camp at a local YMCA in New Orleans. While he was there, reporters asked if he was opening the camp, “Zion City,” because he wanted to stay on the Pelicans.

Williamson said that he's steadfast in maintaining his spot on the Pelicans roster long-term.

“I do want to be here. That's no secret. I feel like I've stood on that when I spoke,” Williamson said, quote courtesy of ESPN. Currently, this does not really have anything to do with that. This is just me wanting to be a pillar in my community.”

With both sides seemingly on the same page, Williamson is expected to sign a huge deal with the Pelicans. The team's VP of Basketball Operations David Griffin recently referred to Williamson as a “max player,” calling the decision to extend his contract “pretty easy.” Right now, the deal is expected to be roughly a max, five-year, $181 million contract.

After an entire season's absence, Williamson will finally get the chance to play for the Pelicans again. He has no restrictions moving forward, allowing the dominant forward to prove his max player potential to the team.
