New Orleans Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin and general manager Trajan Langdon are meeting with superstar big man Anthony Davis on Monday.

Griffin and Langdon will try and convince Davis to change his mind about wanting to be traded by the Pelicans.

The Pelicans won the Draft Lottery and will select Duke star Zion Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, which is on June 20. Griffin and Langdon will likely sell Davis on a “Big 3” consisting of him, Williamson and Jrue Holiday.

Davis has one year left on his contract with the Pelicans. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020 once he declines his 2020-21 player option. The Pelicans technically don't have to honor AD's trade request, but they would risk losing him for nothing if they don't trade him.

Davis played in 56 games this season. The six-time All-Star averaged 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 blocks. Griffin has a strong relationship with Davis' agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. Paul, of course, represents Los Angeles Lakers star small forward LeBron James.

It's widely believed Davis wants to be traded to the Lakers so he can play with James. The New York Knicks are another team which Davis reportedly wouldn't mind playing for.
