To begin the 2017-18 NBA season, Anthony Davis has gotten off to a strong start. The 24-year-old is filling up the stat sheet once again by averaging 24.3 points and 12.8 rebounds. Unfortunately, he has not played in the last two games after injuring his knee early against the Portland Trail Blazers.

After missing nearly two games, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports Davis is expected to make his return against the Cleveland Cavaliers:

Fortunately for Davis and the Pelicans, it was not a serious injury. Before playing in 75 games during the 2016-17 season, Davis had not played more than 70 games and was labeled as injury prone.

During Davis' brief absence, DeMarcus Cousins stepped up with two major performances, including a 41-point and 23-rebound game in his first return to Sacramento since the trade.

With the Pelicans currently 2-3 through five games of the new season, there is pressure to make the playoffs with the two All-Star big men in the highly competitive Western Conference. When both are healthy, teams have difficulties matching up with them as the league has mostly embraced small ball.

The Pelicans look to win their second consecutive game as they host the defending Eastern Conference Finals champion Cavaliers at 4:00 PM PST.
