Heading into the 2017-18 NBA season, the New Orleans Pelicans are looking to make the playoffs for the first time in two years. Unlike the previous seasons, there is great pressure as DeMarcus Cousins is set to become an unrestricted free agent and Anthony Davis may want to play in a winning situation.

While the Pelicans re-signed Jrue Holiday and signed Rajon Rondo in free agency, it may not be good enough in the Western Conference. As a result, Cousins has been recruiting Carmelo Anthony on social media according to Ian Begley of ESPN:

For the Pelicans, they might have the salaries to match Anthony's contract, but it is difficult seeing the Knicks trade for Solomon Hill, Omer Asik, or E'Twaun Moore. All three players have at least two years remaining on their contracts, which are also considered unmovable.

As for Anthony, he has a no-trade clause and has been heavily linked with the Houston Rockets. While playing with Cousins and Davis may be an attracting option, the Rockets have a much better team led by Chris Paul and James Harden.

With the new season approaching, it will be interesting to see if New York's new front office ultimately moves Anthony. At this stage, it would make sense to build around Kristaps Porzingis and allow the 10-time All-Star to play for a championship contender in the final stages of his career.
