David Griffin reportedly received assurances from the New Orleans Pelicans that the franchise is making a larger investment into their front office under his leadership, according to Scott Kushner of The Advocate.

Griffin became the Pelicans' Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations on Friday.

David Griffin will be tasked with trading Pelicans superstar power forward Anthony Davis this summer.

Davis requested a trade near the February trade deadline. While New Orleans opted to keep AD, they are expected to move him this offseason.

Griffin is one of the brightest basketball minds in the business. He was the architect of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team which defeated the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. LeBron James is very high on Griffin, which is why The King was privately upset when Griffin left the Cavs in 2017. Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and Griffin had different visions for the team, so Griffin decided to leave.

There's a lot to clean up in The Big Easy. Depending on who they get in return for Davis, the Pelicans will also have to look at the future of point guard Jrue Holiday, who will make $26,131,111 next season. If New Orleans is planning to rebuild, Holiday and the Pelicans might be better off separating.
