The New Orleans Pelicans seem to have one goal in mind over the course of the next couple of years and it's quite simple: keep Zion Williamson happy.

This offseason the Pelicans let Lonzo Ball slip to the Chicago Bulls without even a whisper of New Orleans trying to bring him back. They have a new head coach in Willie Green after the Stan Van Gundy hire didn't seem to work out for either side after just one season. There are a lot of moving parts for a franchise trying to show stability for their young superstar.

Now, it appears they are trying to add Buddy Hield via a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings. The problem the Pelicans may run into though, is what else they could send besides Josh Hart. Via, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, New Orleans is going over its options.

New Orleans and Sacramento were said to be discussing a Buddy Hield-for-Josh Hart sign-and-trade baked into the Pelicans' draft-week deal with Memphis, although it's unclear if that dynamic remains plausible as Hart is still unsigned.

The language here is important as Fischer notes they, “were said to be discussing.” The past tense could lead some to believe that those talks have died off between the Kings and Pelicans.

Hield would be a nice add as a sharp-shooting guard who has seemingly been brought up in trade talks for two years now. The problem is Hield likely doesn't move the needle a whole heck of a lot for the Pelicans.

Even though Zion hasn't made a fuss or mentioned he's upset with the direction of the franchise, everyone else has been bringing it up as though it's some sort of foregone conclusion. We'll see what the next move for the Pelicans is.
