With 4.6 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the score was locked at 125-128 in favor of the Pelicans. The Lakers had a chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer. The inbound play seemed to be intended for Brook Lopez but Davis anticipated the pass perfectly.

Davis finished with a game-high 33 points along with nine rebounds in the win. Point guard Rajon Rondo also logged in 24 points and 10 dimes, while Jrue Holiday had 26 points and six assists.

The Lakers, meanwhile, also got productive efforts from the squad. Lonzo Ball finished with 22 points, five rebounds, and two assists; Julius Randle tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds; Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a team-high 28 points; Brook Lopez scored 23 points and snagged six rebounds.

The Pelicans are currently fourth in the West and are in for a playoff run. Davis, and his career-season so far, is partly responsible for the way the Pelicans have performed. He services were much needed after his front-court partner DeMarcus Cousins was sidelined in January with a season-ending injury.

In an interview with Rachel Nichols of ESPN posted back in February, Davis opened up about carrying the team:

“A lot of minutes; the weight of the world on your shoulders. You have to carry the team on your back … you have to almost get 40 every night to give us a chance to win.”

“It’s tough. You kind of have to have that Russell Westbrook mentality. When [Kevin Durant] went out … Russ just went out there and played. He shot 40 shots sometimes; whatever it takes to help your team win. We’re kind of taking that approach.”
