New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins has been ejected after elbowing Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook in the head Monday night during the third quarter.

The move looked inadvertent in terms of whether or not it was malicious as Westbrook tried to sneak up behind Cousins to make a steal in the backcourt.

Take a look at the play in full:

Cousins was very unhappy with the call (no surprise here) but he may actually have a pretty good case this time. Although he did connect firmly with a shot to Westbrook's head, he didn't mean to so it had to be extremely upsetting for him to get tossed for it.

To make matters worse, this happens with the game tight in the fourth quarter and now the Pelicans being down one of their dynamic duo bigs things will only be even tougher to overcome the Thunder.

All ejections and plays like this get reviewed by the league so it will be interesting to see if any modifications to the official ruling are made at a later date. Either way, that doesn't help New Orleans now as every win is valuable for them, a team that will likely be fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season.
