New Orleans Pelicans rookie Jaxson Hayes just got up and swatted Stephen Curry's layup into the stands.

Curry, who has mastered the art of the high-arching layup, was probably shocked that Hayes was able to go up that high for the block.

Hayes was the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was picked by the Atlanta Hawks, but he was eventually traded to the Pelicans along with the number 17 pick Nickeil Alexander-Walker and the draft rights to the No. 35 pick Marcos Louzada Silva.

The 6-foot-11 center, in his lone year with Texas, was crowned Big 12 All-Defensive Team and Big 12 Freshman of the Year, as well as Second-team All-Big 12.

Now, Hayes is considered among the key young players for the Pelicans, along with Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart. Their youth is not seen as inexperience that may turn into a liability. Rather, it's seen as an asset — as their youth means that they are hungry, full of energy and devoid of egos.

The Pelicans may not make waves this season. But highlight clips like the one above definitely showcase what they can do once their potentials are fully realized.
