With the MLB All-Star Game behind us and the trade deadline ahead of us, the Yankees and Padres have both shown interest in acquiring Joey Gallo from the Rangers, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. This trade deadline will have significant implications on New York's future plans as they currently sit 8 games behind first place. Some fans have considered the idea whether the team should be selling their pieces and giving up on the season or dealing for more talent to make a late season push. Come on, it's the Yankees. It's highly unlikely we'll see Brian Cashman unloading Gary Sanchez, Gleyber Torres, and more just to get worse.

But does New York have what it takes to get Joey Gallo before August? Dan Federico laid out what it could take back in May:

“I've seen a lot of trade rumors surrounding Joey Gallo. Asked a rival executive what it would take to pry him away from the Rangers: “I think it'll take one high ceiling prospect and a mid level prospect, and maybe another piece. Despite his shortcomings he has a lot of value.”

Potential trade package:

Rangers receive: Clint Frazier (OF), Estevan Florial (OF), and Oswald Peraza (SS)

Yankees receive: Joey Gallo (LF)

New York is in desperate need of left-hand hitting, the only lefty they've been able to throw in the lineup has been 37-year-old Brett Gardner. Meanwhile, left-hander Joey is in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career and is still just 27 years old. Currently 5th in home runs (24), Gallo makes the Yankees already intimidating lineup even scarier.

Clint Frazier is a young, wildcard player that the Texas Rangers should take a chance on. He's received inconsistent playing time over the past few seasons in New York and has shown flashes of great power and defensive improvement. Yes, he's had his struggles this season hitting .186, but the best time to buy-in on a player is when their value is low.

Estevan Florial is the Yankees #10 prospect, who like Joey Gallo, also plays in the outfield. Florial is hitting .211 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI's in 2021 down in Triple-A, along with 9 stolen bases. Florial can be very intriguing due to his left-handed hitting, which is strongly desired across the league, along with his ability to steal bases. With the Rangers sitting dead last in the AL West with a 35-55 record, it could be wise to move Gallo and begin looking at adding more young pieces. With the right hitting staff, Florial could be turned into a consistent, versatile lefty for the team.

New York's Oswald Peraza would be a big piece in this trade, currently slotted as their #4 prospect. Peraza is hitting an impressive .295 in Double-A with a decent sample size of 237 at-bats this season. Not to mention he's a speedster, adding 22 stolen bases this year.

Much of the Yankees offense is dependent on their power, so it's valid to question if adding a power hitter like Joey Gallo is actually a smart move. What he can do is bring a consistent bat that can be productive in a lineup that has seen its days of no hitting one through nine. He's been heating up just as the trade deadline approaches as well, hitting .333 with 5 home runs in July thus far. If Joey could come to New York and continue the season he's having, we'd see a major difference in the Yankees play.
