Bryson DeChambeau announced Thursday morning that he is withdrawing from this weekend's PGA Championship at Southern Hills. DeChambeau was gearing up to make his return to golf after missing more than a month while recovering from surgery on his wrist. The doctors needed to repair a bone in his left wrist.

DeChambeau got in a practice round on Wednesday. That led many to believe that the long hitter was going to be able to play this weekend. He played the back nine and did not appear to be in any pain. DeChambeau also spent time hitting off numerous tees at the Southern Hills Country Club in different directions, testing out the flexibility of his wrist. After the practice round, he was asked about the injury responding “it's still attached.” Apparently that should have been a sign.

DeChambeau last played golf professionally at the Masters in the beginning of April. He missed the cut, shooting a 12-over par, prompting him to elect to have surgery to repair a fractured hook of the hamate bone. General recovery time from that type of surgery is typically four to six weeks. A little over a month has passed, but obviously he does not feel comfortable enough to join the tournament this weekend.

DeChambeau is a major champion, having won the 2020 U.S. Open Championship. That same year, he posted his best finish at the PGA Championship, finishing tied for 4th.

In DeChambeau's place, Denny McCarthy has been added to the field. Tiger Woods will once again be playing, hoping to finish stronger than he did at The Masters.
