Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber was recently named to the NL All-Star team. However, the slugger is having an up-and-down season. On one hand, Schwarber is slashing just .219/.332/.524 as of this story's publication. On the other hand, Schwarber leads the NL in home runs with 28, and trails only Aaron Judge for most homers in all of MLB. And those homers have landed Kyle Schwarber in the 2022 Home Run Derby.

Schwarber made the announcement via his Instagram on Tuesday.

Schwarber will aim to take town 2-time reigning Home Run Derby champion Pete Alonso. Alonso has become a mainstay in the event and is establishing himself as one of the best derby contests the game has seen in quite sometime.

This year's Home Run Derby will have a number of different players in it. Nationals young star Juan Soto and Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr recently announced they would participate in the event. Cardinals' veteran and future MLB Hall of Famer Albert Pujols will be apart of the 2022 derby as well.

The field is not yet complete. Only 5 of the 8 spots have been filled. We will have to wait and see who the next 3 participants will be.

But Phillies fans will be excited to see Schwarber participate in the 2022 Home Run Derby.

This is not Schwarber's first time in the event. He participated in the 2018 Home Run Derby where he made it all the way to the Finals before losing to Bryce Harper at Nationals Park. Harper very well may have joined Schwarber once again in 2022 had he not endured an injury.

The 2022 Home Run Derby will take place next Monday at Dodger Stadium.
