The Detroit Pistons are in the midst of their rebuild and will look to build upon this with the 5th pick. Detroit went 23-59 this season but had some solid seasons from their young players.

Cade Cunningham had a good rookie season, averaging 17.4 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists. He shot 41.6 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from three, and 84.5 percent from the free-throw line. While he needs to improve his efficiency, Cunningham looks to a franchise guard for the Pistons.

Saddiq Bey also had a good season, proving that he can be a good scorer. He averaged 16.1 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from behind the arc. Bey is another Detroit player that has shown potential but needs to become more efficient.

Center Isaiah Stewart averaged 8.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 51 percent from the field, which is not great efficiency for a big.

He has shown that he can be a productive big but needs to up his field goal percentage going forward.

One of the big questions this offseason for Detroit is whether they will trade Jerami Grant. Grant is a valuable forward but doesn't fit the timeline of the core. The Pistons could get solid value in return for Grant, as win-now teams would value him highly.

They would likely receive either a draft pick or a young player, as well as another player to match his contract. With that said, here are three reasons Keegan Murray would be the perfect pick for the Pistons with the number five pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

3 reasons Keegan Murray is the perfect pick for Pistons in 2022 NBA Draft

3. Murray can space the floor

A big factor in the modern NBA is shooting, especially from downtown. If a player can shoot the three-ball, they can at least play off of stars with their shooting ability.

Murray shot 39.8 percent from three-point land this past season in college. He was a good scorer, averaging 23.5 points per contest along with 8.7 rebounds. While he likely won't put up numbers like this right away, he could be a valuable scoring option outside of Cunningham and Bey.

He is great at scoring off the ball, which makes him a seamless fit into any offense. Detroit's offense could improve with a player like Murray for the future.

2. Murray is a great defender

Another valuable asset in Murray's game is his defensive skills. He is versatile, with the ability to guard multiple positions. Switchability is crucial in the modern NBA, as skilled offensive players look for mismatches off of the pick and roll.

Murray can defend at a high level and could be a stout defender for Detroit. His defense would be something great to build on for the Pistons.

1. Murray is a suitable replacement for Jerami Grant

While Grant is a good player, it seems time for him to go to another team. He fits what many competitive teams are looking for, and they could receive solid value in return.

Murray can be a solid scoring option as well as defend at a high level. With a chance to grow over the years, he could play a similar role as Grant did but fit the timeline of the other young players on the roster.

The Pistons have many decisions to make this offseason as they look to grow their young core. Murray would be a great fit and could be a foundation-building piece for Detroit.
