Derrick Rose is unlikely to be traded by the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline, according to The Athletic.

The Pistons will only move Rose if they get a first-round pick:

And then there’s Derrick Rose. One source with knowledge of Rose’s situation downplayed the notion that he would be on the move, which is odd considering the fact that he could help any contender and likely net a decent asset in return (a source said the Pistons want a first-rounder). The 31-year-old former MVP is averaging 18.5 points and 5.8 assists as Detroit’s sixth man, and his contract ($7.6 million next season in the final year of the deal) is extremely palatable.

Rose is averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 44 games for the Pistons this season. He’s shooting 49.8 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Pistons guard is currently out with an adductor strain. He didn’t play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday and won’t play on Wednesday versus the Phoenix Suns either.

The Pistons are 18-34 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. While fans would love to see Rose compete in the playoffs, it really sounds like he’s comfortable with the Pistons despite all the losing that is taking place in Detroit.

For his career, Rose averages 22.7 points and 6.6 assists in the postseason. If a contender wants him, they will have to offer a high draft pick.
