This 2017-2018 NBA season may be nicknamed “The Year of the Facial Accessory.”

Detroit Pistons swingman Anthony Tolliver will be yet another player this year who has needed to wear some sort of apparatus on his face in order to protect or prevent an injury. He reportedly broke his nose and practiced with a mask, per Rod Beard of the Detroit News.

Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving just parted ways with his mask after suffering a facial fracture a few weeks ago. And Celtics forward Jaylen Brown recently had to wear goggles because of some sort of irritation or infection in one of his eyes.

Tolliver joins a group of players that apparently can't take care of their face well enough, forcing them to use fashion unfriendly accessories on their face.

Many star players have had to wear masks in previous years, such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. It was Irving's second time having to wear a mask in his career.

Masks on NBA players just look funny, and it won't be any different when Tolliver takes the floor with his.

The issue is that Tolliver is a shooter. The mask may hinder him in that respect while he wears it, which is sure to make him an unhappy camper for a few games.

But health is the most important thing, and if a mask ensures that, so be it. Let's all collectively hope he has fun with it somehow.
