It was a good day for the Detroit Pistons, to say the least. The 2017-18 NBA season got its first big shake-up of the year with the L.A. Clippers trading power forward Blake Griffin to the Pistons in exchange for a bevy of players and future draft picks.

After the trade, it was announced that center Andre Drummond would be replacing Washington Wizards point guard John wall in the 2018 NBA All-star game. As a result, Griffin wasted no time in getting chummy with his new teammate by congratulating him on Twitter.

It is promising to see the two big men already starting to hit it off in lieu of the recent events. Although the Pistons may have given up quite a bit in order to acquire Griffin, the significant change may have been just what this team needed to get back on track. Detroit had been one of the surprising teams in the East to start the season. However, they largely floundered over the last two months and have slipped out of playoff contention for the moment.

It seems the Pistons could be following the New Orleans Pelicans blueprint of pairing two formidable big men in the same frontcourt. While both Pelicans bigs had been enjoying stellar individual seasons up until Cousins' season-ending injury, the Pelicans had been struggling to stay in the Western Conference playoff picture themselves.

That said, it is a bold move by the Pistons. However, it is one that could give Detroit the boost it needed in order to start moving up the playoff seeding by season's end.
