After missing the Detroit Pistons’ last game against the Boston Celtics, big man Blake Griffin has been cleared from the NBA’s concussion protocol and will return when the teams meet again on Sunday.

The 31-year old was seen taking shots and warming up ahead of Detroit’s game against the Celtics. Blake Griffin, who missed the teams’ previous meeting, was in the concussion protocol after suffering a forearm to the head from rookie James Wiseman in the Pistons’ 116-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Without Griffin, Jerami Grant led the Pistons with a 24-point performance to help the team grab their first win of the season in a 96-93 victory over the Celtics on Friday.

Blake Griffin, a six-time All-Star with the Los Angeles Clippers and Pistons, has averaged 16.3 points, six rebounds, and three assists while shooting 45.9% from the field and 43.5% from beyond the arc in three games this season.

Detroit, however, has gotten off to a disappointing start this season, dropping their first four games before winning one against Boston, and enter Sunday’s game tied with the Toronto Raptors for 13th place in the Eastern Conference, just ahead of the 1-5 Washington Wizards.

Still, just a week and five games into the season, the Pistons have time to right the ship and for Griffin to recapture his old form. His best statistical season in Detroit came two seasons ago, when he averaged a career-high 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 46.2% from the field and 36.2% from downtown while playing 75 games.

The Pistons hope that his return will mean more wins as they look to rebound from a slow start.
