Life has been good for Blake Griffin since he joined the Detroit Pistons in the middle of last season. So much so, that the 6-foot-1o power forward could not help but take a shot at his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, and how his former fanbase treated him as a player and as a person.
Speaking to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, Griffin explained why in his mind, Pistons supporters have given him a much warmer reception that what he was used to back in L.A.
“Here, people always say, ‘We appreciate what you're doing,'” he said. “No one ever said that in LA. Which is a really cool thing to hear.”
Griffin also pointed out that at this point in his career, he is very happy with the things he is doing for the Pistons, and that he believes he has become part of something special.
“People believe me now; they didn't believe me at the time,” he says. “I was looking forward to a fresh start, doing something different. It was time … I still feel pride in being part of the group of players that went to six straight playoff appearances. And that's the same way I look at this situation. Even if they traded me this summer, I always like that challenge and it's something coach [Dwane] Casey and I talk a lot about, which is building the foundation of this franchise.”
As Griffin expressed, there has been some rumors circling regarding a potential move away from Detroit for him in the summer.
Nevertheless, if this indeed comes to fruition, there is no doubt that the former Rookie of the Year Winner will be leaving with his head held high.
