Detroit Pistons big man Christian Wood becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer and he figures to get paid.

Wood is averaging 22.0 points and 10.2 rebounds since the Pistons traded Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The high-flyer knows he's got a “big summer” ahead:

“I know it’s a big summer for me,” Wood said on Tuesday, via Pistons.com. “I actually think I’m one of the best bigs in this free agency coming up with my ability to shoot and space the floor and be able to play the five and be able to guard and switch on the perimeter. I’ve just got to stay focused. I’ve got to keep with the same mindset, same attitude what I’m doing right now.”

Overall on the season, Wood is putting up 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.9 blocks in 21.1 minutes per game. He's shooting 55.9 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 75.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Pistons have been awful this season and are headed for the lottery after making the postseason in 2018-19 for the first time since 2016. Blake Griffin's second left knee surgery basically ended the Pistons' season in early January.

Detroit has only won one game since the Drummond trade. However, Wood has been playing the best basketball of his career and is setting himself up for a huge pay raise in the offseason. The Pistons will likely be the front-runner to re-sign Wood since they already have a rapport with him and he can be their starter for the long-haul now that Drummond is gone.
