Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose says Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant is the guy he looks to in terms of not changing his game entirely as he gets older.

While Rose remains one of the quickest players in the league despite undergoing four knee surgeries, his jump shot has improved over the years and he's not as reckless as he used to be. The former MVP takes a lot of mid-range jump shots now and is effective.

However, Rose is always going to be who he is, a driver and scorer. Like Bryant, Rose wants to be effective until the day he retires:

“I’m not a jump shooter,” Rose said, via Rod Beard of The Detroit News. “I’m just a scorer. Whatever you give me, I’ll take it. I knew that having a jump shot prolongs your career. The older you get, you adapt to the game and that’s all I’m trying to do now. If the game goes back to all lay-ups and midrange, I want to be able to do what Kobe (Bryant) did. He’s my example and the guy I look to and make sure I don’t change my game all the way.

“He didn’t change his game at all, but he was able to play 20 years and still be effective. That’s amazing to me. There aren’t too many people in NBA history, besides the greats, who can do that. I want to be considered one of them.”

Rose is coming off a 21-point game against the New Orleans Pelicans where he scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and hit the game-winning shot over Jrue Holiday.

The Pistons are 10-14 on the season and riding a two-game winning streak heading into their matchup against the Dallas Mavericks in Mexico City.

D-Rose comes off the bench for the Pistons, but he’s the best guard on the team. The Chicago native is averaging 16.1 points and 5.8 assists while shooting 48.8 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 87.0 percent from the free-throw line.
