Detroit Pistons senior adviser Ed Stefanski says Derrick Rose is the perfect veteran to lead the Motor City franchise moving forward in the post-Andre Drummond era.

The Pistons chose not to trade Rose at the deadline despite receiving calls from the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz.

“What we really like about him [Derrick Rose], from my standpoint, where we’re going now with the young guys, he’s a leader,” Stefanski told The Athletic.

“The young guys love him. They probably idolized him a little bit. In the locker room, he’s great with the young guys. On the court, he’s just a terrific player to help them. Going forward, with what we’re going to do here, you’re going to need some veterans. I don’t know if you can pick a better veteran than Derrick Rose to help you in the process of this rebuild.”

Rose is averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 44 games for the Pistons this season. He’s also shooting 49.8 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

However, the 31-year-old guard is currently out with an adductor strain and it is unknown when he will return to the lineup.

The Pistons are 19-34 on the season and in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
