Although Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose managed to enjoy another solid performance, his team was once again flat-out dominated in the 104-81 loss to the Utah Jazz. Now that they have lost seven of their last eight, there continues to be plenty of speculation regarding his limited playing time with the team.

Rose is averaging just 24.4 minutes per game in the 2019-20 NBA season despite serving as one of the few bright spots for the Pistons. It seems he is admittedly just as confused about his modest role as fans are, via Vincent Ellis of The Detroit Free Press:

“I feel good, but it’s not up to me with the minutes. It’s up to the coaching staff and the (medical) staff. Of course, I want to be out there, but I guess they see something I don’t, and they’re worried about me.”

Rose added that he is more than up to the task of taking on an elevated role with the Pistons from a health standpoint.

“It’s all up to them. It’s not me. Can I play them? Yes, if that’s what you’re asking me. I can play the minutes.”

The decision to play Rose in a limited fashion off the bench is certainly a perplexing one considering he is taking full advantage by averaging 16.7 points and 5.9 assists per game for the Pistons. His skill set as a scorer brings some much-needed firepower to the offense whenever he is on the court, however, head coach Dwane Casey is still hesitant to utilize him more often.

If Rose is unable to garner more minutes in Detroit, it is safe to say that his frustration will continue to mount as the Pistons' abysmal season goes on. As a result, he may be emerging into an intriguing trade option for other teams around the league at some point before the trade deadline.
