Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey says point guard Derrick Rose “still has jets in his tank.”

The Pistons signed Rose to a two-year deal in free agency this summer. The youngest MVP in NBA history has undergone four knee surgeries, two on each knee, but remains one of the quickest players in the league.

Last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Derrick Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The Chicago native shot 48.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc, 85.6 percent from the free-throw line and scored a career-high 50 points on Halloween against the Utah Jazz.

Rose will likely back up Reggie Jackson at the point guard spot unless the Pistons trade Jackson, who is in the final year of his contract. Jackson put up 15.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 2018-19.

Rose, who will turn 31 in October, is the definition of a walking bucket. With the Timberwolves last season, Rose became the first NBA player since 1983 to score at least 917 points in fewer than 1,400 minutes. Rose only played in 51 games, though. Injuries are the only concern when it comes to Rose. When he’s on the court, D-Rose has always been productive.

The Pistons made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2016, but got swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. Detroit averaged 107.0 points per game in 2018-19, which ranked 25th in the league.

With Rose in the fold, the Pistons should be more explosive on offense next season.
