The Detroit Pistons are claiming Jordan McRae off waivers, stealing him from the Phoenix Suns in the wake of the Derrick Rose injury, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Rose will be out for at least two weeks with an ankle injury, so the Pistons need some backcourt depth. McRae fits that bill:

McRae is averaging 11.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists on the season. He began the season with the Washington Wizards, but was then traded to the Denver Nuggets. McRae was then waived by the Nuggets because he wasn't getting any playing time there.

The Pistons are headed for the lottery after making the playoffs last season. Detroit is in full rebuild mode after Blake Griffin's latest knee injury. The Pistons traded Andre Drummond and bought out Reggie Jackson and Markieff Morris.

However, the Pistons are trying to be competitive next season once Griffin is back. That's why Detroit didn't trade Rose at the trade deadline despite getting calls from a bevy of teams.

Jordan McRae has career NBA averages of 6.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 119 games with the Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Wizards and Nuggets.
