The Detroit Pistons will kickstart a search for a new general manager to work alongside senior advisor Ed Stefanski, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Following a 20-46 season that has left the franchise well-short of the postseason, the Pistons plan to contact potential candidates to start the interview process as soon as this week.

Stefanski will work with Pistons and Palace Sports Vice Chairman Arn Tellem to make the hire. The candidate that fills this vacancy will work closely with Stefanski and head coach Dwane Casey on the hire of personnel. Both aforementioned were hired in 2018.

The Pistons have struggled mightily this season, first dealing with a knee injury that sidelined Blake Griffin for the rest of the campaign and later dealing Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the trade deadline with no future in sight.

Detroit also dealt point guard Reggie Jackson to the Los Angeles Clippers, leaving only a hollowed-out version of their roster from this summer, with plenty of decisions yet to be made.

Casey made the playoffs in his first year at the helm, swept at the hands of the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks as the eighth-seeded Pistons (41-41) were blown out by 16 or more points in each of the games.

Whoever takes the GM job in Detroit is expected to shake things up and likely head a rebuilding effort with not much left to put together a winning squad.
