The Detroit Pistons have honed into former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey in the search for their own coaching vacancy, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Pistons recently hired Memphis Grizzlies executive Ed Stefanski as a senior adviser, which will make him responsible for overviewing the current front office and overseeing the process of hiring a general manager and coach.

“The big thing right now… is that we need a head coach and a GM,” said Stefanski. “Those will be two items that we will probably do simultaneously.”

The long-tenured executive is slated to meet with current GM Jeff Bower and discuss a possible role. They have a long history of knowing each other, so talks will mostly be based on a sense of direction.

Many executives of the Stan Van Gundy era are still in the front office, which bodes as Stefanski's first challenge upon his arrival at the Motor City.

Stefanski was part of an executive core that first hired Casey in Toronto, back in 2011 — a tie that could prove a sense of familiarity for the 64-year-old coach, who is fresh off two playoff exit sweeps at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Casey also led the Toronto Raptors to a franchise-best record of 59-23, garnering the No. 1 overall seed in the Eastern Conference.
