The Detroit Pistons have waived forward Joe Johnson, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The move comes just over a month after the Pistons signed him following his MVP run in the BIG3.

Johnson's $1.37 million salary for the 2019-29 campaign would have been guaranteed had Detroit not waived him before the 5 p.m. ET deadline on Monday, per Bobby Marks of ESPN.

Meanwhile, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports noted earlier on Monday that Johnson had been dealing with swelling in his Achilles, so you have to wonder how much of a role Johnson's questionable health played in the Pistons' decision. Christian Wood and Khyri Thomas will get the final roster spots.

Detroit had added Johnson with the hope that he could provide some floor spacing to an offense that desperately needed it, but, obviously, things did not go according to plan.

Johnson split the 2017-18 campaign between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets, playing in 55 games overall and averaging 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds over 21.9 minutes per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the floor and 27.6 percent from 3-point range.

The 38-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Arkansas, was originally selected by the Boston Celtics with the 10th overall pick of the 2001 NBA Draft.

Johnson spent just a half a season in Boston before being traded to the Phoenix Suns, where he proceeded to reside for the next three and a half years.

He then landed with the Atlanta Hawks, where he went on to make six straight All-Star teams between 2007 and 2012, averaging over 20 points per game in four consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2010.

After his time with the Hawks, Johnson signed with the Brooklyn Nets, spending three and a half seasons with the club and making one All-Star team. He was waived by the Nets midway through the 2015-16 season and joined the Miami Heat.

He linked up with the Jazz that ensuing summer.

Johnson owns career averages of 16.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from downtown.
