Derrick Rose is on a minutes restriction, something Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey admits is “very difficult.”
Rose is the best guard on the Pistons. However, since the former MVP has an extensive injury history, Detroit is bringing Rose off the bench and keeping him around 25 minutes per game.
“It’s very difficult. You want him out there more than his minute allotment allows. He’s such a dynamic player. He brings so much to the table,” Casey said, via K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. “Our team changes when he’s on the floor. We get faster. We’re tougher. We’re more physical. But there’s only a limited amount of time he can be out there. We have to be disciplined.
“In shorter minutes, he’s still the same, explosive player. Maybe not as quick as he was a kid or as he was in his MVP year. But he’s savvy enough. He’s tough enough.”
Through the Pistons’ first five games of the season, Rose has been very productive. He’s averaging 20.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists while shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 94.4 percent from the free-throw line in 25.0 minutes per game.
The Pistons are 2-3 entering Friday’s matchup against Rose’s old team, the Chicago Bulls. Rose, a Chicago native, figures to get loud cheers from the Bulls fans when he enters the game.
Chicagoans are hoping Rose puts on a show on Friday, even if it comes at the expense of the Bulls.
